Familie ('we', 'our', 'us') operates the Familie mobile application. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our app.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from those providers.

Family Data

Data you enter into Familie — calendar events, meal plans, grocery lists, chores, budget entries, documents, photos, and emergency contacts — is stored in Firebase Cloud Firestore and Firebase Storage, associated with your family group.

Device Information

We collect basic device information (device model, OS version) for crash reporting via Firebase Crashlytics. This data is anonymous and used solely to fix bugs.

Analytics

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how features are used (e.g., which screens are visited, which features are popular). Analytics data is aggregated and does not identify individual users. Analytics collection is disabled in debug builds.

2. On-Device AI

Familie uses on-device artificial intelligence (Apple Intelligence on iOS, Google Gemma on Android) to provide features like the AI assistant, greeting cards, and summary insights. All AI processing happens entirely on your device. Your family data is never sent to external AI servers. No prompts, responses, or family context leave your phone.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and maintain the Familie service
  • To sync family data across family members' devices in real time
  • To send password reset emails when requested
  • To diagnose crashes and improve app stability
  • To understand feature usage and improve the app
  • To display ads to free-tier users (via Google AdMob)

4. Advertising

Free-tier users see banner ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve relevant ads. Premium users see no ads.

5. Data Sharing

  • Within your family group: Family members you invite can see shared family data (events, chores, grocery lists, etc.).
  • Firebase (Google): Your data is stored on Google's Firebase infrastructure.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in Firebase Cloud Firestore with security rules that restrict access to authenticated family members only. Photos and documents are stored in Firebase Storage with similar access controls. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by Firebase.

7. Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be removed. Shared family data (events, chores, etc.) remains accessible to other family members.

8. Children's Privacy

Familie is designed for family use and may be used by children under parental supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without parental consent. Family accounts are created and managed by parents or guardians.

10. Changes to This Policy
